Employee Benefits

Working with the JTA

Full-time, non-bargaining employees of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority are offered a comprehensive benefits package.

Health Insurance

Choose between a traditional Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan through Florida Blue (BCBS). Both plans offer large networks, low or no cost annual wellness visits and pharmacy Rx coverage. Additional benefits include smart care programs offering expert advice allowing you to choose the treatment options best for you and your family.

Dental Insurance

Coverage is provided through Florida Combined Life/Florida Blue. Their Blue Dental Choice Plan gives you the freedom to see the dentist of your choice. Coverage includes preventative maintenance, basic and major services visits. Additional benefits include orthodontia services for kids, no waiting periods and Maximum Rollover of your annual maximum to help pay for future unexpected dental office visits.

Educational Assistance

Employees with a minimum of one year of service are eligible for educational assistance. Reimbursement is based on the University of North Florida’s tuition schedule in effect at the time the course is taken. Undergraduate students must earn at least a C and graduate students at least a B.

Employee Sponsored Retirement

Employees also have access to an optional 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Many options are available for investment and free financial guidance is offered. Additional benefits include tax-free loans and a fee based Guided Portfolio Service for those who prefer to have someone manage their account for them.

Employer Sponsored Retirement

JTA is a member of the Florida Retirement System and makes monthly contributions there on the employee’s behalf. Employees are responsible for a mandatory 3% pre-tax contribution. Employees may choose between a traditional pension plan or an individual investment plan. Retirement benefits vary according to the plan you choose.

Vacation

After six months of employment employees accrue 6.67 hours vacation time per month, equivalent to two weeks per year during the first five years of service. After five years of service, employees accrue 10 hours vacation time per month, equivalent to three weeks per year. After 10 years of service, employees accrue 13.34 hours vacation time per month equivalent to four weeks per year. Employees can sell back a portion of their vacation leave when certain criteria are met.

Sick Leave

Employees accrue sick pay at the rate of 8 hours each month. The maximum accrual is 720 hours.

Holidays

Employees receive 10 paid holidays per year.

Group Term Life Insurance

Group Term Life and AD&D insurance is provided equal to an employee's annual salary, up to 250,000.

Group Long Term Disability Insurance

Group Long Term Disability insurance is provided equal to an employee’s annual salary, up to 250,000. Coverage provides 60% of the employee's basic monthly earnings after 90 days of continuous disability.

Voluntary Benefits

JTA also offers its employees optional voluntary benefits including cancer insurance, intensive care insurance, short-term disability, voluntary term-life insurance, pre-paid legal and vision care.

Section 125 Premium Conversion Plan

Employees have the option to pay for their family coverage and qualified voluntary benefits on a pre-tax basis.
