JTA Celebrates Anniversary of My Ride 2 School Program

JACKSONVILLE, FL.  January 4, 2023 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is proud to announce the first anniversary of My Ride 2 School, a one-of-a-kind partnership between the JTA and Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) which allows local students to use their student I.D. to ride JTA buses for free.

My Ride 2 School launched January 4, 2022, as a pilot program to provide free fixed-route bus trips to middle and high school students attending any DCPS private or charter school. During the pilot program, students took over 35,000 rides. JTA’s board of directors made the program permanent and extended the hours in August of 2022.

Students can now ride at any time seven days a week with a valid I.D. Since the program started, JTA has provided approximately 105,000 free rides for students.

“Just as DCPS neighborhood schools anchor the community, public transportation provides that essential connectivity within the community,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “Every day, the JTA works to improve mobility and access for students in the Northeast Florida region and this partnership with DCPS will help them expand their transportation options now and in the future.”

The partnership with DCPS is part of JTA’s MOVE2027 Strategic Plan CommunityWorks initiative to leverage its resources and relationships with partners to strengthen the region.

Thirty-four JTA bus routes, including the First Coast Flyer bus rapid transit routes, have stops at or near local schools. Students and parents are encouraged to visit www.jtafla.com or contact JTA Customer Service at (904) 630-3100 to locate schedules, ask questions, or sign up for travel training.
