Hurricane Idalia Updates

The JTA is monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia as it approaches Florida. Please stay tuned to JTA's website and social media pages for service alerts and updates. Updates will also be provided through the MyJTA app.

8/31/23, 8:45 a.m.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) will resume standard operations following a suspension of service due to Hurricane Idalia in the Northeast Florida region.  

Status of Service

  • JTA Bus Routes – RETURNS 8/31
  • Johns River Ferry – SUSPENDED until further notice
  • ReadiRide – RETURNS 8/31
  • Express Select – RETURNS 8/31
  • Skyway – RETURNS 8/31
  • Paratransit – RETURNS 8/31
  • Administrative Offices – OPENS 8/31

8/30/23, 8:26 a.m.

We have five vehicles out providing service between our 4 pickup locations, Fletcher High School, Mayport Middle School, Baldwin Middle-High School, Jacksonville Beach Elementary (as well as Ken Knight Drive) and the City of Jacksonville shelters. We plan to shuttle until 10 a.m. or as long as it is safe to be out.

8/30/23, 6:40 a.m.

All JTA services, including transportation to the City of Jacksonville shelters, are suspended today because of Hurricane Idalia conditions in our region. We expect Fixed Route, First Coast Flyer, Express Select, Skyway, ReadiRide, Connexion and Connexion Plus service is expected to resume tomorrow (8/31), with St. Johns River Ferry Service expected to return this weekend. 

Updates regarding the resumption of service will be provided throughout the day.

There is no St. Johns River Ferry service today in preparation for Hurricane Idalia. Resumption of service of service is TBD and is dependent on storm conditions.

All other services will remain operational today, with administrative offices closing at Noon. Transportation to the City of Jacksonville's designated storm shelters will also begin at noon. Specific routes will also be placed at Ken Knight Drive & Moncrief Road (Bus Stop 3991) for transportation to the Legends Center every 30 minutes. 8/28/23, 5:05 p.m.

  • St. Johns River Ferry service will be suspended indefinitely, beginning Tuesday, August 29.
  • The JTA plans for normal service operations for all other services on Tuesday, August 29. Fixed Route Buses, First Coast Flyer, ReadiRide, Express Select, Paratransit, and Skyway service will be suspended beginning Wednesday, August 30. Service is expected to resume on Thursday, August 31.
  • JTA will suspend all transportation services if and when sustained winds reach 35 miles per hour and will cease crossing major bridges in accordance with the instructions of law enforcement officials.
  • JTA Administrative Offices will close at 12 p.m. on August 29 and will remain closed on August 30. Office are expected to reopen on August 31.
