JTA Receives National Marketing Award from APTA

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – February 27, 2018 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) received a national first place award during the 2018 American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Annual AdWheel competition for best educational social media campaign. The JTA won the category for Take a Selfie, an innovative social media campaign designed to appreciate diversity.

JTA was recognized during APTA’s Annual Marketing and Communications Workshop held February 25-28 in San Francisco. A total of 40 winners were selected from 300 submissions.  JTA Vice President of External Affairs, Jacquie Gibbs accepted the award on behalf of JTA at the AdWheel Awards Celebration.

“I am pleased that APTA has recognized the creative team of individuals in our External Affairs Division that year after year come up with these exceptional marketing campaigns,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “This campaign provided an opportunity to learn more about diversity leaders and interact with JTA on social media.”

The goals of the Take a Selfie campaign were to celebrate diversity, enhance social media engagement on JTA’s Facebook and Twitter pages and increase ridership. The Take a Selfie campaign had a weekly contest component. Customers and the community-at-large were encouraged to take a selfie with prominent diversity champions whose images were depicted on bus shelters throughout the city. The contest asked individuals to visit the designated bus shelters featured for the week on social media, take a selfie with the prominent figure featured in a bus shelter poster and post their picture on social media with the hashtag #JTADiversity.
