Automatic Fare Indexing Policy

In order to avoid drastic fare increases in the future, the JTA Board of Directors passed an Automatic Fare Indexing Policy during a Special Board Meeting held August 13, 2019. It establishes a more predictable and transparent way to set fare changes every two years. This would result in smaller changes, not to exceed 10%.

The Automatic Fare Indexing Policy allows JTA to adjust fares using a formula based on changes in the Consumer Price Index, JTA operating budget and labor cost changes. The Board of Directors will re-evaluate this policy every other year during the budget process and may choose to discontinue or adjust the policy during that review.

Of course, any fare changes also would be reviewed to ensure they don't adversely affect one group over another.
