(Jacksonville, FL – May 14, 2025) Today, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and City Council Member Michael Boylan held a public meeting from 6-8pm at the Mandarin Community Club regarding Phase II of the Mandarin Road Sidewalk project. During the meeting, community members had the opportunity to learn about the project and provide input on the initial design as it develops.
Project benefits include:
This project was requested by the community in a 2016 city survey and the first phase was constructed in 2017. The JTA continues to work with Councilman Boylan and the City of Jacksonville to ensure all guidelines are followed related to the development of this project. The JTA recognizes the importance of the existing tree canopy on Mandarin Road and continues to take steps to minimize impacts to the trees and other community features.
Councilman Michael Boylan stated, “While I respect and appreciate the concern raised by some and we all want to see the canopy preserved, our neighbors to the north of Red Cypress Drive deserve the same opportunity to enjoy the corridor as those who regularly walk the first phase. I also want to commend and thank the JTA for their leadership on those. They proved to be very good stewards in the installation of the first phase, and I would expect nothing less this time.”
CEO Nat Ford said, “Community partnerships are at the heart of everything we do at the JTA. We’re proud to continue our work alongside Councilman Boylan and the City of Jacksonville to advance this important project. Our goal is to enhance safety, mobility, and connectivity while respecting the natural character of Mandarin Road. We look forward to collaborating with the community as we shape a design that reflects their needs and values."
