St. Johns River Ferry Transition Celebration Saturday, April 16

Join the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), the City of Jacksonville, St. Johns River Ferry Commission and Friends of the Ferry on Saturday, April 16 to celebrate the transfer of ownership of the St. Johns River Ferry. Festivities kick off in Mayport Village at noon with an opening ceremony. The event runs until 5 p.m.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from food trucks. The event includes music throughout the day, a game truck, face painting, balloon art, a bounce house and more. In addition, the ferry will provide complimentary rides all day.

Parking is available at JTA’s Park-n-Ride lot at Wonderwood & A1A and at Mayport Middle School located at 2600 Mayport Road. JTA shuttles will provide complimentary transportation to and from the lots throughout the event, starting at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

The JTA assumed ownership and operations of the ferry on March 31, 2016. The St. Johns River Ferry is a car and passenger ferry that connects the north and south ends of Florida State Road A1A with daily service between Mayport Village and Ft. George Island across the St. Johns River. It runs Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. The 0.9 mile voyage crosses the St. Johns River 2.5 miles inland of the river’s mouth and departs every half hour.
