Skyway Running for FL-GA Game and Community First Saturday Events

This weekend thousands will gather in downtown Jacksonville to enjoy activities taking place for the 2013 Annual Florida vs. Georgia Football game as well as this month’s Community First Saturday.  To accommodate event goers, the JTA is extending its Skyway hours.

This Friday, November 1, 2013, the JTA will provide complimentary access to the Skyway from 6 a.m. to midnight and Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 9 a.m. to midnight.

“In addition to extending the Skyway hours, the JTA has made adjustments to improve the ease of use for the biking community utilizing the Skyway during Community First Saturdays,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr. “For those customers who are bringing their bicycles on the Skyway, we encourage them to use the ADA gates.”

Last month, the JTA started a pilot program permitting bicycles on the Skyway during Community First Saturdays throughout the season (October 2013 – May 2014).  During Community First Saturdays the Skyway's ADA gates will be open for customers using the elevators to transport bicycles onto the Skyway.   If you experience difficulty or have questions please press the intercom button for assistance.

Cyclists are also encouraged to be mindful of other customers.  Those who bring their bicycles on the Skyway are encouraged to exercise extra caution, adhering to the following guidelines:

• Avoid boarding trains that are full.
• Keep your bicycle away from all doors and retain control of your bicycle at all times.
• Use elevators, not escalators when taking bicycles in and out of Skyway stations.
