JTA Wins State Marketing/Safety Awards

JACKSONVILLE, FL — The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) was a big winner at the 2010 Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) Marketing and Safety Awards held last week in Miami. The Authority took home five awards for marketing materials and campaigns, as well as its safety initiatives.

First place Awards of Excellence were presented to:

  • Making Moves, JTA’s TV news and information program hosted by Joyce Morgan-Danford and JTA Executive Director and CEO Michael J. Blaylock,
  • JTA’s Future Plans video, which showcases the agency’s transit plans for the next generation, and
  • Tiger Team Hunt, a one-week scavenger hunt using only public transportation for Edward Waters College students.

Also receiving awards were JTA’s Mass Transit department, which was named first runner-up for FPTA’s 2010 Safety Award, and the agency’s Summer Youth Pass program and Jingle Jam contest, which won an Award of Honor.

 “We’re extremely pleased that the FPTA took notice of our efforts and chose to honor us with these awards,” said Blaylock. “This recognition is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our employees and the agency’s commitment to creating a comprehensive transportation system that is both effective and safe.”

Now in its third season, Making Moves can be seen on WJXT-4 the second Monday of every month at 12:30 p.m. and on WJXX-25 the second Saturday of every month at noon. The Future Plans video can be viewed at  

The FPTA is a nonprofit association whose members include every major public transit agency in Florida, as well as interested citizens and businesses. The FPTA promotes the recognition, use, improvement of public transportation in the Sunshine State.
