JTA Launches Expanded Reduced Fare Pilot Program

JACKSONVILLE, FL.  – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is expanding its reduced fare program this summer.

Eligibility for the Reduced Fare Pilot Program now includes anyone receiving benefits through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Women, Infants and Children (WIC), or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), along with those who qualify for Section 8 housing.

That is in addition to existing customers who have a qualifying disability, including veterans with disabilities; Social Security Disability (SSD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicare recipients.  

Qualified customers can purchase reduced fares through the Token Transit mobile app or through a JTA Reduced Fare STAR Card:

  • Single trip pass for $0.75  (discounted from $1.75)
  • 1-day pass for $1.50  (discounted from $4.50)
  • 31-day pass for $30  (discounted from $65)

The Reduced Fare Pilot Program runs through September 30, 2021, and eligible customers can purchase Reduced Fare passes for an entire year.

Sign Up Process

To sign up for the Reduced Fare Pilot Program, customers must provide proof of eligibility in the form of an approval letter from their caseworker or benefits administrator.  The proof of eligibility must be brought to the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla Ticket Center, located at 100 LaVilla Center Drive on the ground level. WIC recipients can call JTA Customer Service at (904) 630-3100 to confirm eligibility.

Once the customer is approved, they will receive a text message with a link to download the Token Transit mobile app. Once they’ve registered with Token Transit using their phone number, purchased and activated their bus pass, customers can scan their digital pass when they board their JTA bus.

Customers who do not have access to a mobile phone can receive a Reduced Fare STAR card.
