Downtown Night Trolley Called Success

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), announced today that it provided 640 trips on the Downtown Night Trolley during the two-night trial on August 1 and 2.

The Downtown Trolley connected with the Riverside-Avondale Trolley from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Programs like the neighborhood trolleys support transportation in our communities and enhance the vitality of Jacksonville,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr.   “The ridership numbers are impressive.  The trolleys averaged 40 riders per hour.”

“Reconnecting downtown with our core neighborhoods through convenient and reliable transportation alternatives is important to downtown’s economic vitality,” said Mike Field with Transform Jax.  “The trolleys were filled to capacity all weekend, proving that people will choose to use transit if it fits the needs of their lifestyles. People riding the trolley were even playing fun games like trolley bingo and hide and seek using geotagging from their smartphones.”

Between live music shows and the fireworks, The Landing was busy all weekend,” said Janice Lowe, general manager at the Jacksonville Landing.  “The trolleys provided our guests a convenient way to come downtown without having to search for parking, and offered them a safe return home. We love anything that makes it easier for people to get downtown and hope this becomes a regular service."
