JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – July 11, 2016 –The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is holding a series of public meetings and a public hearing to share service enhancements and seek public input regarding proposed changes to the bus system. The meetings will be in an open house format where customers can arrive within the meeting window, discuss the proposals and provide feedback. The public is strongly encouraged to attend.
Service changes are essential as a part of our continued commitment to improve public transportation. This includes routes that will be affected by the launch of the Southeast Corridor of the First Coast Flyer™ Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in December. Discussion will include the elimination of routes 7, 33, 34 and 304; major changes to routes 17, 23, 25, 30 and 50; and new local routes 27, 28 and 35.
The 11.1 mile Southeast Corridor is the third segment of a five-phased First Coast Flyer™ system planned for the Jacksonville area. The scope includes seven branded stations and transit signal priority. It will also include the construction of the Avenues Walk Park-n-Ride lot and the purchase of energy efficient compressed natural gas buses. The $23.8 million project is funded by the FTA, Florida Department of Transportation and the JTA.
