New Fares

New fares began September 30, 2019

The Need for a Change

For the first time in seven years, JTA has increased fares. The change took place on September 30, 2019. This was only the fifth adjustment since JTA began providing public transportation services in 1971. Since the last fare modification in 2012, JTA has made significant investments to build an outstanding transportation system for our riders:

  • Better than 80% on-time performance (up from 64% in 2013)
  • Improved and expanded bus network
    • 43 First Coast Flyer buses with 10-15 minute frequency
    • 13 fixed-route buses now have 30-minute frequency (up from 2 in 2014)
    • 5 fixed-route buses now have 15-minute frequency
  • New, state-of-the-art buses
    • Most of the JTA bus fleet is less than 3 years old
    • 19 buses have on-board monitors featuring real-time passenger information
    • All buses now have digital validators for use with the MyJTA app for faster and easier boarding
    • Nearly 40% of buses use compressed natural gas (CNG)
  • Partnerships to offer on-demand services
    • ReadiRide — Curb-to-curb on-call service in 8 neighborhood zones
    • Beachside Buggies — JTA is a sponsor of this service, offering complimentary on-demand transportation throughout Neptune, Atlantic and Jacksonville Beaches
  • Enhanced rider experience
    • Real-time passenger information — With the NextBus app, on-board monitors, and digital displays at shelters and stations, customers don’t have to wonder when the next bus will arrive.
    • MyJTA app — Increases the convenience (and safety) of not carrying cash. A discount will be offered for riders purchasing their fares through the app.
    • Free on-board Wi-Fi — Stay connected during your commute.
    • More Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) — Additional TVMs located around town for easier access for riders without a mobile device.

In addition to the fare change, the JTA Board of Directors passed a new Automatic Fare Indexing Policy to simplify future fare modifications.
