JTA Testing Bikes On Skyway for Community First Saturdays

With the growing number of bike riders in the community, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is pleased to announce that during Community First Saturdays, the agency will permit bikes on its Skyway service. 

 Starting this Saturday, October 5, 2013 the JTA is encouraging customers to bring their bikes onto the Skyway during all Community First Saturdays throughout the season (October 2013 – May 2014). 

“As we incorporate our Bikes on Buses (BOB) program, we’ve had many of our riders also request to bring their bikes on the Skyway as well,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr. “As an initial testing phase, we are offering our biking community the opportunity to load their bikes onto the Skyway during Community First Saturdays which fall on the following dates:   

 ·         Saturday, October 5, 2013  

 ·         Saturday, November 2, 2013

 ·         Saturday, December 7, 2013

 ·         Saturday, January 4, 2014

 ·         Saturday, February 1, 2014

 ·         Saturday, March 1, 2014

 ·         Saturday, April 5, 2014

 ·         Saturday, May 3, 2014

 Cyclists are encouraged to be mindful of other patrons.  Those passengers who bring their bicycles on the Skyway are encouraged to exercise extra caution, adhering to the following guidelines:

 Avoid boarding trains that are full.

 Keep your bicycle away from all doors and retain control of your bicycle at all times. 

 Use elevators, not escalators when taking bicycles in and out of Skyway stations. 

The JTA provides complimentary access to the Skyway and operates every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout all Community First Saturdays.
