Dump the Pump and Try Transit on June 15

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – June 7, 2017 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) announced today that it will join other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the 12th annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 15.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2017 National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving a car. Dump the Pump complements JTA’s overall new ridership initiative called “TryTransit”. The initiative is designed to encourage choice riders to try a mode of public transit for the first time and current customers to ride more frequently.

Riding public transportation is a great alternative to driving, and will help save money. According to the June APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-car household can save an average of more than $9,797 annually by downsizing to one car.

Additionally, public transportation is a catalyst for economic development. Public transportation helps to make communities economically prosperous and competitive. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.

As part of Dump the Pump Day, JTA’s new “TryTransit” bus will be on display in front of JTA’s Customer Service office on Hogan Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, JTA representatives will be available with information for the public.
