Board Approves $19 Million for JTAMobilityWorks Collins Road Project

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – June 29, 2017 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) Board of Directors approved a contract with J.B. Coxwell Contracting, Inc. for just over $19 million to provide construction services for the JTAMobilityWorks Collins Road Project.

Collins Road is the second major roadway construction project. The scope includes widening of the existing roadway to four lanes between Old Middleburg Road and Rampart Road. The project includes four lanes with curbed medians, bike lanes, a closed drainage system and sidewalks. Upon completion, the project will improve roadway capacity and traffic conditions on Collins Road.

“We are pleased to get this project underway; widening this roadway will greatly improve mobility and ease traffic woes,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “Features such as the side walks and bike lanes will make the roadway safer for pedestrians, cyclist and motorist, while improving the quality of life for this community and neighborhood residents.”

This project and 11 others were initiated by the City of Jacksonville under the Better Jacksonville Program but are now being completed as a part of JTAMobilityWorks program, which is funded by the Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT). Collins Road follows the construction work for Girvin Road, which started March 2016. JTAMobilityWorks has six projects procuring design services, one procuring design-build and two completed (Old St. Augustine Road/Greenland Road and Soutel Transit Hub).
