Current Activity Report
The planning phase is 95% complete. Four refined alternatives were analyzed with a JTA Board selection of a recommended alternative scheduled for October 2003.
Alternative #1 – No Build (Do Nothing):
- Leaves intersection in current condition with no improvements
- Average daily traffic volumes will increase 28% by 2028
- Level of service (LOS) is currently at E and will deteriorate to LOS F (failing in 2028) due primarily to increasing travel on northbound Hodges Blvd. turning onto Atlantic Blvd.
Alternative #2 – At-Grade Lane Additions (widen existing roadway):
- One additional through lane each direction on Atlantic Blvd.
- One additional left turn lane on Hodges Blvd. northbound
- Two through lanes on Joeandy Rd. southbound
- Will provide a LOS E at design year of 2028
Alternative #3 – Tight Urban Diamond Interchange with Atlantic Blvd over Hodges/Joeandy (Atlantic Overpasses Hodges/Joeandy):
- Overpass on Atlantic Blvd. with three lanes in each direction
- Provides two signals – one at the bottom of each entrance and exit ramp.
- Provides access to adjacent properties along entrance and exit ramps
- Will provide U-turn movements under overpass
- Provides LOS E at design year of 2028
Alternative #4 – Left Turn Flyover from Hodges northbound to Atlantic westbound (Flyover NB Hodges to WB Atlantic):
- Two-lane left turn flyover from Hodges Blvd northbound to Atlantic Blvd westbound.
- Left turn flyover lanes will merge with Atlantic Blvd in the median
- Existing Atlantic Blvd remains as a six lane section
- Provides LOS E at design year 2028
