Work on FIND Island to Start This Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.Those who travel along Atlantic Boulevard between the beaches and town are likely familiar with the mound in the Intracoastal Waterway. Commonly referred to as the FIND site, this mound was created as part of wetlands mitigation efforts by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) for the new high-rise Beach Boulevard Intracoastal Waterway Bridges, in accordance with the requirements of the regulating agencies. Work is scheduled to begin this week to re-grade the mound and plant the area with natural marsh grasses.

The grading work is scheduled to be completed within 30 days with the planting of the site to begin in late April with the start of the growing season. All work should be completed by the end of May. When completed, the mound will resemble a series of natural, low mounds similar to other mitigation areas along the Intracoastal Waterway. All plans have been approved by the St. Johns Water Management District, Army Corps of Engineers, Beaches leadership and JTA Board.

The contractor is Turnbull Environmental Inc., a St. Augustine mitigation contractor.
