PUBLIC MEETINGS ANNOUNCED FOR FIRST COAST FLYER LAUNCH; SERVICE CHANGES

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – July 20, 2015 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is holding a series of public meetings and a public hearing to share service enhancements and seek public input regarding proposed changes to the bus system. This includes routes that will be affected by the launch of the First Coast Flyer™ Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in December. Discussion will include the elimination of Route 2, changes to Route 12, and a reduction in service for Routes 203 and 301.

First Coast Flyer™ will feature green low-floor, branded buses with easy-to-understand routes, and real time bus arrival information. The premium service will take customers longer distances more quickly, make fewer stops and offer 10-minute peak and 15-minute off peak frequency.

“The First Coast Flyer™ will serve as the backbone to the regional transit system and provide higher frequency and faster bus service to attract new riders,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “First Coast Flyer™ will provide a needed transportation option in our community.”

The 9.4 mile North Corridor will begin service on Monday, December 7, 2015. The scope includes 18 stations, the construction of a park-and-ride lot and the procurement of eight energy efficient compressed natural gas buses. The $33.2 million project is funded by the FTA, Florida Department of Transportation and the JTA.
The meetings will be in an open house format where customers can arrive within the meeting window, discuss the proposals and provide feedback. The public is strongly encouraged to attend to review the proposed changes and provide input.
