New Transit Resource Center Launched; Will Help Vets Get Mobile

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – September 23, 2014
TransPortal, a One Call/One Click Transportation Resource Center, was launched by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) in partnership with the Northeast Florida Mobility Coalition during the 2014 Mobility Summit held at the Clay County Council on Aging in Green Cove Springs on Monday, September 22.

“TransPortal is the transportation resource to help citizens in Northeast Florida find the best transportation options for their unique trip needs,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr.   “Veterans and military families are an important focal point of this project, but the website is available to anyone in the 13-county region who desires information about transportation options in the region.”

(L-R) Katie Ross, Sen. Bill Nelson's office; Glenel Bowden, Congresswoman
Corrine Brown's office; Jessica Norfleet, Congressman Ted Yoho's office;
Dr. Yvette Taylor, FTA Regional Administrator; and Nathaniel P. Ford Sr.,
JTA Chief Executive Officer.

TransPortal will provide costs, travel time and availability on all potential transportation options in the Northeast Florida area to include:

•  Traditional transit and paratransit services
•  Bicycle share program
•  Car and van pools
•  Volunteer driver programs
•  Taxis
•  Motor or long-distance coaches (Greyhound and Megabus)
•  Passenger rail
•  Social and not-for-profit agency services

Funded by the Federal Transit Administration, TransPortal is one of many virtual transportation resource centers across the U.S.

More than 150 people participated in the summit to launch TransPortal and discuss trends in national transit, mobility management and initiatives in transportation coordination.  The vision for the Northeast Florida Mobility Coalition is to partner with exiting organizations to improve access to diverse transportation services, improve the customer’s travel experience, achieve cost savings through regional coordination; shift the focus from individual agencies to the customer; and emphasize the entire travel experience, not just the time on the vehicle.

Featured speakers at the summit included State Senator Audrey Gibson (D-Jacksonville); Dr. Yvette Taylor, Federal Transit Administration Regional Transit Administrator; David Darm, Chairman of the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged and Chris Zeilinger, Assistant Director of the Community Transportation Association of America.
