Mass Transit Mag Names Weckenmann Top 40 Under 40

Top 40 Under 40

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – September 18, 2015 – Mass Transit, the only magazine exclusively dedicated to public transportation, has named the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s (JTA) Carl Weckenmann as one of the Mass Transit Top 40 Under 40. The recognition honors professionals who have made significant contributions to the public transit industry. Honorees were nominated by their peers and judged on criteria that included job commitment, industry involvement and contribution along with achievement in his or her position and innovation in his or her field.

Winners will be showcased in the September/October cover feature of Mass Transit magazine and online at www.MassTransitmag.com. “I am honored that Mass Transit recognized me with this significant award,” said Weckenmann. “However, I want to thank the entire JTA team that successfully implemented ROI.”

Weckenmann is JTA’s Senior Manager of System Planning. In this role, he is responsible for all elements of transit planning, including bus routing and scheduling, locating bus stops, route analysis and long-term development of transit. Weckenmann served as the project manager for the planning of JTA’s Route Optimization Initiative (ROI), which completely overhauled JTA’s fixed route and community shuttle service. Without any additional annual operating funding, he devised a plan to dramatically increase the frequency and directness of transit service in Jacksonville. Despite expectations of initial ridership decline typical of a major service change, ridership over the first nine months is up six percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

“I am thrilled that Carl has been recognized for his contribution to one of JTA’s greatest success stories,” said JTA Vice President Brad Thoburn. “He is a valued and integral member of the senior management team. Congratulations Carl.”
