Major Traffic Shift at Kernan-Beach Intersection

In an effort to keep you informed during this construction project, we wanted to take a moment to make you aware of an upcoming traffic flow change. Construction has now progressed to a point where it is necessary to shift Kernan traffic slightly to the west to a section of new roadway to allow construction of the bridge to begin. In this new configuration, left turns from southbound Kernan Boulevard just south of Beach Boulevard will not be possible. This shift will take place February 9, 2008.

Kernan Square Shopping Center (Publix, Castillo de Mexico, Kernan Dental Care, Health Shoppe, Hallmark, Nationwide, Goodwill, The Masters Touch, Alltel, Firehouse Subs, Mark Pierce Chiropractic, Melanos Subs, Pizza and Pasta, UPS Store, Ciao Bella Hair, Cedars Cleaners, Matrix Nails, Wok House, Beef O’Bradys)

Travelers wishing to enter the shopping area on the southeast corner of Kernan and Beach will need to turn left from southbound Kernan onto eastbound Beach and turn right into the center. A right hand turn from northbound Kernan will still be allowed as will a right hand turn from the shopping area onto northbound Kernan. Those exiting the shopping center wishing to travel south on Kernan will need to exit right onto Kernan and travel north to Beach where a U-turn can be made from the left turn lane.

Avanti Tropical Oasis Apartments, Atlantic Storage Unit,  Kernan Plaza (Ginza Japanese Restaurant, H&R Block, Jaguar Nails, Cleaners, Image Hair Design, Sienas Pizza) and Peoples First Community Bank

Those entering the storage units, apartment complex or businesses, will continue south on Kernan Boulevard and make a U-turn before Melrose Place. Large trucks or moving vans will need to travel from J. Turner Butler Boulevard north on Kernan and turn right into the desired complex. Exiting the complex to go south on Kernan will require a trip north to Beach and a U-turn to go back south.

This will be a permanent change in the traffic flow. Please adjust your travel patterns accordingly. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact Wendy Morrow at (904) 598-8733.
