JTA's Making Moves Wins National Honor for TV Excellence

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – October 20, 2014
Making Moves, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s (JTA) monthly television program received a national first place award during the 2014 American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Annual AdWheel competition for electronic media. JTA was recognized during APTA’s Annual Meeting & Expo held October 12-15, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

“Making Moves is an excellent way to communicate our vision to the Northeast Florida community,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “The platform allows us to talk about current and future projects and initiatives, provide updates on system changes, and let viewers hear directly from the decision makers about the future of transportation in our community.”

Making Moves is North Florida’s premier source for transportation news and information. The show features transportation experts, as well as local and national political figures who discuss the important transportation issues affecting North Florida today. The program is hosted by longtime Jacksonville news anchor Donna Deegan.

The winning episode featured a story on two JTA bus operators who came upon a car stuck on railroad tracks early one morning near Baptist Hospital in San Marco with a person inside and a train just moments away. With the help from one of a bus passenger, one operator successfully rescued the car’s driver, while another raced down the dark railroad tracks, using only the light from his cell phone, to flag down the train. The train came to a screeching halt just a few feet before ramming into the car.

This is Making Moves' second AdWheel Award in the last four years and the sixth overall award in the show's six-year history. The show is produced by JTA’s Bill Milnes, TV/MultiMedia Producer. Milnes has written, produced, directed and edited every episode in show’s history.

The seventh season of Making Moves premieres on November 4, 2014. It airs weekly on ABC affiliate WJXX-25 and monthly on WJXT-TV4, the highly-rated independent station.
