JTAMobilityWorks Girvin Road Groundbreaking

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning for the JTAMobilityWorks Girvin Road project.

Girvin Road is the third project and first major roadway construction project under the JTAMobilityWorks program. The scope includes widening the existing roadway to five lanes between Atlantic Boulevard and Ashley Melisse Boulevard and three lanes between Ashley Melisse Boulevard and McCormick Road. The project includes curb and gutter, center turn lanes, stormwater ponds, sidewalks and bike lanes. Upon completion, the project will improve capacity and traffic conditions through the roadway corridor.

The design-build contract has been awarded to R.B. Baker Construction. Design is underway and construction is anticipated to start in June 2016 with an estimated completion date of Spring 2018.

“We are excited to break ground on the Girvin Road project under the JTAMobilityWorks program,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “This project will put people to work, build much needed transportation infrastructure and improve the quality of life for the neighborhood residents.”

A meeting to inform the public about the Girvin Road project was held on Thursday, March 3 at Abess Park Elementary School.
