JTA-Walgreens Pass Partnership Remains Strong at 1 Yr Mark

JACKSONVILLE, FL — One year ago, Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and local Walgreens stores teamed up to provide customers with a safe and easy way to purchase weekly and monthly bus passes. The response from Walgreens customers has been tremendous with more than 32,000 passes purchased since the partnership began.

“We understand that our riders are busy. So finding the time to purchase
transit passes in a convenient location is important,” said Michael Blaylock, JTA Executive Director/CEO. “By partnering with Walgreens, our mutual customers now have that convenient and time saving way to buy our passes right in their own neighborhood.”

Walgreens is the latest in a growing list of area retailers who have become JTA Pass Partners. JTA passes can now be purchased at 55 locations throughout the city, including 32 Walgreens stores.

“We are pleased to partner with JTA to provide our mutual customers the convenience of purchasing transit passes at their neighborhood Walgreens store,” said Walgreens East District Manager Michael Carralero.   “Like JTA, we’re always seeking new opportunities to better serve our communities, so we’re delighted with the favorable response from our customers.”

In honor of the one year anniversary of the successful JTA-Walgreens pass partnership, one lucky customer at the Walgreens at Eighth and Davis streets in Jacksonville got an unexpected surprise. JTA officials presented Elisher Parks with a set of passes for the remainder of 2010.

“I just came in to Walgreens to buy my monthly bus pass,” Parks said. “I use JTA all the time. It’s how I get around the city.  So this is great!”

Weekly passes are $12 and monthly passes can be purchased for $40.
