Farfan Repeats as Bus Roadeo Champ; Will Join Maintenance Team in Daytona for State Competition

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Local Bus and Maintenance Roadeo held on Sunday, March 16.

JTA Bus Operator Ramon Farfan is the first place winner in the 2014 Bus Roadeo competition. Ramon finished with a total score of 656 out of 700 possible points. He maneuvered a 40’ bus on an obstacle driving course designed to test his bus operation skills as well as he competed in a pre-trip bus inspection event. Ramon is a repeat champion, having won first place at the 2013 State of Florida Bus Roadeo and first place 40' Bus Operator at the 2012 International Bus Roadeo.

JTA three-member Maintenance Team, called “The Fighting Machinists,” with team members James Ratliff, Randy McDuffie, and Tommy Crews won first place in the maintenance competition. There are five timed events that the technicians must diagnose and identify planted defects on major components of a bus.

“I would like to thank all of the JTA operators and maintenance staff who competed in the 2014 Local Bus and Maintenance Roadeo,” says Lisa Darnall, JTA’s Vice President of Transit Operations. “This competition gives contestants the opportunity to show off their driving skills and maintenance disciplines. We look forward to having our first place champions represent the JTA in the upcoming State Roadeo.”

Local winners will advance to the State Roadeo in Daytona Beach, Florida on April 4-5 with a chance to compete in the International Bus and Maintenance Roadeo held in Kansas City, Missouri in early May.

We congratulate Ramon, James, Randy, and Tommy and wish them the best of luck in the State competition.
