Temporary Closure of the St. Johns River Ferry

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – July 18, 2016 – The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is investing in the St. Johns River Ferry. The haul out is complete and the slip walls and other infrastructure repairs are partially completed. In order to complete vessel improvements and the remaining Ft. George slip wall repairs, the boat will be removed from service for one week. The ferry will be closed from Monday, July 25 through Sunday, July 31.

The JTA assumed ownership and operations of the ferry on March 31, 2016. In the first month of ownership, landscaping and renovations were completed at the Mayport and Ft. George landings. The MyJTA mobile ticketing application was also integrated so ferry customers can purchase tickets with their smartphone.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes for residents, travelers and tourists,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “Closing service for one week allows us to safely complete these essential repairs in a timely manner.”
