JTA Future Plans

Downtown Phase I

As a part of our transit system redesign effort, the JTA is working to incorporate Bus Rapid Transit components like dedicated peak hour lanes and new shelter improvements along portions of downtown and the southbank area.

These improvements will help reduce the number of large buses from downtown while enhancing downtown mobility circulation though better utilization of the Skyway and Trolley services.

Project Status: After receiving the document of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the downtown phase one project is now in the project development phase.

The process will design and incorporate:
• Enhanced branded shelters with scheduled information
• Intersection technologies to improve reliability
• Dedicated transit lanes
• Sidewalk and streetscape improvements

Current Activity: Design Phase: The 60% design plans have been completed.
Funding:  $13.4 million (80% federal, 10% state, 10% local)
Schedule: Design is expected to be complete fourth quarter 2012
